What Is Split Tunneling?
Split tunneling is a VPN feature that lets you route some of your traffic through the encrypted VPN tunnel while other traffic accesses the internet directly.
When to Use Split Tunneling
- Banking: Route banking apps through VPN while streaming uses your regular connection
- Gaming: Keep your game on regular connection for lowest ping
- Local devices: Access your printer or NAS on local network while VPN is active
Types
- App-based: Choose which apps go through VPN
- URL-based: Choose which websites go through VPN
- Inverse: Everything through VPN except selected apps
