Military-Grade VPN Security

AES-256 encryption. Strict no-logs policy. Kill switch and DNS leak protection built in. Your privacy isn't a feature — it's the foundation.

AES-256 Encryption

Bank-level encryption protects every byte of data between your device and our servers. Uncrackable by any known method.

No-Logs Policy

We do not log your browsing activity, connection timestamps, IP addresses, or DNS queries. Period.

Kill Switch

If your VPN connection drops, the kill switch instantly blocks all internet traffic to prevent data leaks.

DNS Leak Protection

All DNS queries are routed through our encrypted tunnel. Your ISP will never see what sites you visit.

IPv6 Leak Protection

We block IPv6 traffic to prevent accidental leaks that could expose your real identity.

Shared IP Addresses

Multiple users share the same IP address, making it impossible to trace activity back to any individual.

What Is Military-Grade VPN Encryption?

"Military-grade encryption" refers to AES-256 — the Advanced Encryption Standard with a 256-bit key length. It was adopted by the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) in 2003 for encrypting top-secret classified information, and has since become the global standard for any application requiring high-security data protection.

LimeVPN uses AES-256-GCM across all VPN connections. GCM (Galois/Counter Mode) adds authenticated encryption, meaning any tampering with your data in transit is instantly detected and rejected — not just kept private, but actively verified.

A 256-bit key has 2²⁵⁶ possible combinations — a number larger than the estimated atoms in the observable universe. Even with every computer on Earth working simultaneously, a brute-force attack on AES-256 would take longer than the age of the universe. There is no known attack that makes this feasible.

Encryption Standard Key Length Strength Used By
AES-256 (military-grade) 256-bit ✅ Unbreakable LimeVPN, NSA, banks, governments
AES-128 128-bit ✅ Very strong Many VPNs, TLS 1.2
DES 56-bit ❌ Broken Legacy systems only
RC4 40–2048-bit ❌ Broken Deprecated (TLS 1.0)

Why Military-Grade VPN Security Matters

Standard HTTPS (the padlock in your browser) protects data between your browser and the website you visit. But it does not hide which websites you visit from your ISP, which server you connect to, or your real IP address. A military-grade VPN encrypts all of your internet traffic — including the destination — from the moment it leaves your device.

This matters because your ISP, government, or network administrator can see your connection metadata even on HTTPS sites: which domains you visit, when, how often, and for how long. AES-256 encryption in a VPN tunnel makes this metadata completely unreadable to anyone between you and the VPN server.

Combined with WireGuard's ChaCha20-Poly1305 cipher (LimeVPN's recommended protocol), you get a VPN connection that is faster than legacy protocols, cryptographically modern, and verified against side-channel attacks — the same standard used in Signal, WhatsApp, and Cloudflare's infrastructure.

Our Commitment to Transparency

LimeVPN publishes quarterly transparency reports. To date, we have received zero data requests that we were legally required to fulfill — because we do not store data that would be useful to law enforcement even if compelled. Our no-logs policy is a technical guarantee, not just a promise.

A third-party infrastructure audit is scheduled for 2026. Read our transparency report and no-logs policy for full details.

VPN Protocols Explained

Recommended

WireGuard

State-of-the-art VPN protocol with a lean 4,000-line codebase. Offers the lowest latency, fastest connection speeds, and modern cryptography (ChaCha20, Curve25519). Best for everyday use.

Compatible

OpenVPN

Battle-tested open-source protocol with a 20-year security record. Highly configurable and compatible with all devices. Ideal for routers and environments where WireGuard is unavailable.

Security FAQ

What encryption does LimeVPN use?
LimeVPN uses AES-256-GCM encryption — the same standard used by governments and financial institutions worldwide. It is mathematically unbreakable with current technology.
What does "military-grade encryption" mean?
Military-grade encryption refers to AES-256, the encryption standard adopted by the US National Security Agency (NSA) for top-secret classified information. LimeVPN uses this same standard for all VPN tunnels.
Does LimeVPN keep logs?
No. LimeVPN operates a strict no-logs policy. We do not store your IP address, browsing activity, connection timestamps, DNS queries, or session data. Nothing that could identify you or your online activity is ever written to disk.
What is a VPN kill switch and why do I need it?
A kill switch automatically blocks all internet traffic if your VPN connection drops unexpectedly. Without it, your real IP address and unencrypted traffic could be briefly exposed. LimeVPN's kill switch activates instantly to prevent any leaks.
What VPN protocols does LimeVPN support?
LimeVPN supports WireGuard and OpenVPN. WireGuard is recommended for most users — it offers the fastest speeds and lowest latency with state-of-the-art cryptography. OpenVPN is available for compatibility with older devices and configurations.
